texas-flooding-2

July 11, 2025

Dear CarPro Family,

We start with thoughts and prayers for those in the Hill Country of Texas.  The loss of life and property due to the historic flooding is hard to wrap your mind around.  We have so many listeners in the affected areas from being on the air in Austin and San Antonio for well over a decade.  I encourage you to donate if at all possible, to one of the very worthy organizations helping the victims of this tragedy.  I have further thoughts on this in my closing message at the bottom of this newsletter.

We bring you a ton of information today after our abbreviated newsletter last week, so I encourage you to look at every article to be sure you don’t miss something of interest.  I have the mid-term sales report for the first half of 2025 and all the automakers have reported.  In other stories, I tell you what percentage of car buyers are paying more than $1,000 per month, which states have the most affordable used cars, which vehicle is most often stolen in every state in America, and what percentage of people can actually change a tire.

In car reviews, I have the incredible 2025 Range Rover Autobiography, a truly luxurious SUV.  My other vehicle this week is a hot rod Lexus, the 2025 IS 500 F Sport Performance. In our third review, Amy Plemons gives you a full and complete review of the 2025 Volvo EX30 all-wheel Ultimate electric SUVIn advice, I tell you why taking out an 84-month car loan is a bad idea.  Kim Komando tells you how to see what your childhood home looks like today, and she has a pop quiz for you, do you know the answer?  I got it wrong.  The answer is at the very bottom of this newsletter.  Don’t miss the latest on tariffs, and I have some hilarious stories for you in my Quick Shifts column today.

If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do.  There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me. Miss a radio show?  Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions.  The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.

rundown-july-11-2

All of our other regular features are below including the Classic Car Contest, the radio stations we are on, how to call the show to talk directly to me, and much, much, more.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

Kim Komando Tech Tips & Other Useful Info

new-kim-kommando-graphiBesides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We're on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Here are some interesting and useful things in Kim’s newsletters from this week I found for you:

  • So, what’s the most-used emoji on Earth? Take a guess: A) 😂, B) ❤️, C) 🙏 or D) 😍. (Find the answer under my closing message at the bottom! )
  • Find your childhood home
    1. Open the Google Maps app or go to maps.google.com.
    2. Type in and enter the address of the house or neighborhood.
    3. Select Street View, then tap the image.
    4. Tap (or click) the screen and then select “See more dates” (top left, web, or bottom, app) to go back in time.

If you’re lucky, Google may have snapshots of the home over the years. You can see when the fence was replaced, or if they finally painted the garage door, or if the tree you used to cry under is still standing.

  • Spies on the road: Washington State’s using motion data from your phone — yep, the same one in your car’s cupholder — to find speeding hot spots. A Michelin-backed system anonymously logs braking and acceleration, then tips off the State Patrol. The upside? Fewer crashes. The downside? Your commute just joined the surveillance state. Not tracked personally, but just enough to ruin your shortcut.

  • 3-second tech genius: Shopping online and the price looks weird? Type camelcamelcamel.com and paste the Amazon URL. It shows the full price history.

  • $1 billion That’s Rivian’s latest cash infusion from Volkswagen. It’s the second billion in a $5.8B tech JV, paid out after Rivian hit gross profit (finally). The deal: VW gets EV software; Rivian gets a lifeline. Think of it as funding your roommate’s startup in exchange for their Wi-Fi password.
  • 126% That’s how much your Parkinson’s risk jumps if you live within a mile of a golf coursePesticides might be the culprit. It’s not just the back nine, it’s what’s soaking into the soil. Fore! But actually … run.

  • Old electronics lying around? Costco’s revamped trade-in program lets you swap them for a store gift card, no membership needed. The trade-in values aren’t small potatoes, either; you can get up to $1,080 for an old laptop! Go to this portal for a quote. If you’re cool with their offer, the shipping’s free, and you’ll have your money in under three weeks. PSA: Amazon has a trade-in program, too, so compare both to see which gives you the better price.
  • Almost 90% That’s how much heart attacks have dropped since 1970, thanks to better meds and emergency care. The twist? With more people surviving, issues like heart failure and high blood pressure are becoming the silent killers. Add in obesity nearly tripling since the ’70s, and, well ... hearts are still under serious pressure.

My Must-See Video Of The Week!

If you watched the Dukes of Hazzard, you know they loved to jump the General Lee, an orange Dodge Charger.  Last week, in Somerset, Kentucky, the General Lee took to the air, jumped a historic fountain, and landed on the other side.  In this 2 ½ minute video, you’ll see the car didn’t fare too well, and it was almost curtains for a cameraman shooting the event.

  Todd's Video of the Week!

THERE'S A "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP" RACE WHERE RUNNERS DRESS UP IN T-REX COSTUMES

A racetrack near Seattle had a race June 29th... without horses. Instead, it was people dressed as dinosaurs. The annual T-Rex World Championship Races started as a team building exercise for a pest company in 2017. Now, thousands of people show up every year to watch the races, which are separated by age and gender. The only requirement? You have to wear an inflatable T-rex costume. The winner? Andrew Stuber for the men and Linsey Lovrovich for the women. The races will air on ESPN2 in early August.

  Closing Message From Jerry Reynolds

The tragedy in the Texas Hill Country last weekend has made me think about how short life can be.  One minute, people along the Guadalupe River are sleeping soundly and in the next minute, their lives are snuffed out in a horrific manner.  The parents of the children who died will never be the same.  For all the days ahead, they will second guess themselves on how this happened and was there anything they could have done?  Every morning when they awake, they will have less than five seconds of peace before the reality sits in again, their precious daughter or son is gone in a phenomenon nobody can understand.  These parents come from all walks of life, some are poor, some are rich, and lots in between-but none of that matters right now. They join me in a very exclusive club that nobody wants to be a member of:  Those who have lost a child.

It is unnatural.  It shouldn’t happen.  Your children should plan your funeral, not the other way around.  Yet suddenly you find yourself sitting in a cold funeral home, in a daze.  There is a good chance you won’t even remember it.  If there is a visitation service, people will want to comfort and encourage you, but they don’t know what to say, and that’s OK, there are no words that help, and you won’t remember them anyway.  Time and close family and friends are all that can comfort you.  While the pain never goes away, it does get easier.

May God bless the people who lost loved ones and equally bless those who tried to help by rescuing the victims and tirelessly searching for one more survivor. The police, fire, paramedics, federal, state and local authorities, the hundreds of volunteers, those who took food, those who donated money, and those who prayed.

It wasn’t 24 hours before people started placing blame, before people were saying really ugly things, before people were making it political for God’s sake.  All I can tell you is don’t do it around me. I won’t be able to control myself.  It is the time to come together, like Americans do in the face of a tragedy.  Channel your negative energy into something good, something that will help.

Hug your loved ones a little longer and a little tighter.  Count your many blessings.  Call someone you had a rift with but have been too stubborn to make amends.  Check on a neighbor. If you are lucky enough to tuck a child in tonight, or if your children are well, drop to your knees and thank the Lord above for them.  Should you find yourself facing what the parents in the Hill Country of Texas suddenly faced, make sure you have no regrets.  Sometimes you don’t get a second chance.

Sincerely.
