Dear CarPro Family,

I hope your week has been terrific.  We have a lot of information for you today.  Automakers are stepping up to help the flooding victims in Central Texas and I tell you about that.  I am proud of the auto industry and many of the dealers who have given to help those who so badly need it.

Just before our newsletter was scheduled to go out to the national subscribers, we learned of an explosion at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department that resulted in the tragic deaths of three deputies.  Early indications are it was a terrible accident.  Our condolences and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these three heroes, as well as to the fellow officers of those who are deceased.  This is another sobering reminder of the risks the brave women and men who put on a badge face every single day.

In other articles, I explain as best I can the new law that allows some people to write the interest off on auto loans. You’ll learn that as used car prices continue to go up, finding an under $20,000 car is almost impossible.  Many of us can’t wait to see the new Superman movie and one of the stars is a car!  From the legal files, 3 different dealerships are being sued, and the Attorney General of Nebraska is suing GM and OnStar for selling your personal data.

Kim Komando has some great tips for you today, and don’t miss Kim’s Quiz, I got this one wrong, too.  The answer is at the very bottom of this newsletter.  In my closing message, I reflect on some thoughts from Steve Jobs as he looked back on his life, just before his death at a very early age.  We could all learn a few things from this gentleman.

In car reviews, I have the incredibly stunning 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ mammoth SUV. My other vehicle this week is the hot 2026 Genesis GV70 3.5T SUV that gets some great updates.  In our third review, Amy Plemons brings you the all-new 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan, and what a redesign!

In advice, I offer you tips on how to get 200,000 miles out of your car. Don’t miss the latest on tariffs, and I have some hilarious stories for you in my Quick Shifts column today.

If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do.  There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me. Miss a radio show?  Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions.  The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.

3rd-rundown-july-18

All of our other regular features are below including the Classic Car Contest, the radio stations we are on, how to call the show to talk directly to me, and much, much, more.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

hill-country-strong-shutterstock-editorial-only-kerrille-2025

The Car Pro Show is based in Dallas-Fort Worth, so the recent catastrophic flooding in the Texas Hill Country hits really close to home. Our thoughts, hearts and prayers continue to go out to the victims and their families. It's been wonderful to see the support of automakers in this great time of need for those in the affected flood areas.  Here's how they are aiding in relief efforts:

Kim Komando Tech Tips & Other Useful Info

new-kim-kommando-graphiBesides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We're on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Kim’s Quiz:

In the grand halls of tech history, there’s one question that bubbles to the top: What was the internet’s very first webcam used for? A) Watching a server room, B) Monitoring a parking lot, C) Keeping an eye on a coffeepot, or D) Livestreaming a chess game? Put on your thinking cap, and you’ll find the answer after my closing message at the bottom of the page.

Here are some interesting and useful things in Kim’s newsletters from this week I found for you:

  • GameStop owes you cash: GameStop’s shelling out $4.5M after quietly slipping your purchase info to Facebook via tracking pixels. If you bought a game online from August 2020 to April 2025 and had a Facebook account, you might get $5 or a $10 store voucher. It’s petty cash, but still, they owe you. File by Aug. 15, 2025.
  • New Uber scam: You request a ride, the driver accepts and you get a call saying you need to verify your account. The scammer asks for your phone number, email and verification codes. Give it up, and they log into your account and steal your money.
  • Full self-driving” debunked: A Tesla owner just got his $10K back after proving “Full Self-Driving” isn’t even close. The car never qualified for FSD beta, and turns out the hardware can’t handle autonomy anyway. It’s “Full Self-Driving” the way LaCroix is “juice.”
  • Mark texts as unread: It’s not just for emails. On iPhone, swipe right on a conversation and tap Mark as Unread (it looks like a speech bubble). On Android, press and hold the convo, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, then choose Mark as unread, so you won’t forget to reply later.
  • Use your iPhone as a car key: Yep, that’s a thing, and it works with your Apple Watch, too. If you have a compatible vehicle (full list here), you can lock, unlock and even start it. FYI: You’ll need an iPhone XS or Apple Watch Series 5 or newer.

My Must-See Video Of The Week!

It’s a quiet day in Memphis, with cars sitting in a parking lot not doing anything.  You see an ambulance pass by, and suddenly a Kia Telluride is seen flying over a concrete barrier, smashing through a sign and a utility pole, smashing a fire hydrant, and finally crashing into the parked cars, and this all happens in a matter of seconds.  Nobody was killed and the driver was not drunk in this minute and a half video from a couple of weeks ago:

  Todd's Video of the Week!

A 36-year-old man has been accused of leading police on a dramatic car chase through Melbourne, resulting in 64 charges. The chase started with the theft of a van and ended with the man jumping out of the vehicle, leading to injuries and the hospitalization of several people.

  Closing Message From Jerry Reynolds

Throughout my life and professional career, I always tried to learn from people who I thought were smarter than I was.  It is still true today.  I listen to other talk show hosts to see what they do right, and equally what they do wrong.  I listen to learn what would make people change the channel and I strive not to give you a reason to do that.

Today, I leave you with some thoughts of Steve Jobs, arguably one of the smartest men ever and certainly one of the most successful.  He died a billionaire at 56 years of age from Pancreatic Cancer, way too soon.  Here are his last gifts to us…his thoughts on life, and after the sudden and horrific events in Central Texas recently, we could probably all learn something here:

"I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes my life is an epitome of success. However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.

At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled, and become meaningless in the face of impending death.

You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you, but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you. Material things lost can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when it is lost – "Life".

When a person goes into the operating room, he will realize that there is one book that he has yet to finish reading – "Book of Healthy Life".  Whichever stage in life we are at right now, with time, we will face the day when the curtain comes down.

  • Treasure Love for your family, love for your spouse, love for your friends...
  • Treat yourself well. Cherish others.
  • As we grow older, and hence wiser, we slowly realize that wearing a $300 or $30 watch - they both tell the same time.
  • Whether we carry a $300 or $30 wallet/handbag - the amount of money inside is the same.
  • Whether we drive a $150,000 car or a $30,000 car, the road and distance is the same, and we get to the same destination.
  • Whether we drink a bottle of $300 or $10 wine - the hangover is the same.
  • Whether the house we live in is 300 or 3000 sq ft - loneliness is the same.
  • You will realize, your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world.
  • Whether you fly first or economy class, if the plane goes down - you go down with it.
  • Therefore, I hope you realize, when you have mates, buddies and old friends, brothers and sisters, who you chat with, laugh with, talk with, sing songs with, talk about north-south-east-west or heaven and earth, .... That is true happiness!

Five Undeniable Facts of Life:

1. Don't educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be Happy. So, when they grow up, they will know the value of things not the price.

2. Best awarded words in London ... "Eat your food as your medicines. Otherwise, you have to eat medicines as your food."

3. The One who loves you will never leave you for another because even if there are 100 reasons to give up he or she will find one reason to hold on.

4. There is a big difference between a human being and being human.  Only a few really understand it.

5. You are loved when you are born. You will be loved when you die. In between, You have to manage!

NOTE: If you just want to Walk Fast, Walk Alone! But if you want to Walk Far, Walk Together!

Thank you, Steve Jobs, for sharing those thoughts before you left us.  May we all take them to heart and try to live them every single day.

Sincerely.

Kim Komando Answer:  ☕️ The answer: C) Keeping an eye on a coffeepot. Yep, the world’s first webcam was set up by computer scientists back in 1991 at the University of Cambridge to monitor the office coffeepot. Why? So no one made the trek only to find it empty. Priorities, people.
