If you're in the market for a sedan or subcompact crossover, here's a list you'll want to check out. It's Mercury Insurance's Top 10 list of the 2025 most affordable sedans and subcompact crossovers to insure this year. Now in its 10th year , the latest list includes 2025 and 2026 model-year vehicles. Kia and Nissan tie for the most models on the list at two each.
"The list of vehicles this year is one of the most diverse ever, ranging from entry-level premium cars like the Acura Integra to more affordable options like the Nissan Kicks and Kia K4," said Chong Gao, Director of Product Management R&D for Mercury Insurance. "Many of these vehicles are smaller and more fuel efficient, which serve as great options for consumers on a tighter budget. Choosing any of these vehicles will help keep the cumulative cost of ownership down, which is something we have always emphasized at Mercury."
The California-based insurer says factors contributing to insurance costs include claims on similar vehicles, costs to repair and vehicle safety records. Mercury says its research and development team examined vehicles that are available at car dealerships today to compile the current list.
