Veteran Sprint car driver Dave Steele was killed in a tragic Sprint car crash Saturday March 25, 2017 at approximately 8:53 pm at Desoto Speedway. His car made contact with another sprint car as he attempted to pass on the outside between Turn 1 and 2 on the opening lap of the 35-lap feature race. His car spun, hitting the wall hard on its left side, breaking a wing support loose from the impact. The race was immediately red-flagged, and track officials went straight to his car to check on him. No official word was given as to his condition at the time. An ambulance was summoned, and arrived shortly thereafter. He was removed from the car by EMS on a backboard and taken to the ambulance for examination. A short time after that, track officials announced that the event had been canceled and no further racing could be conducted that evening, No immediate word on Steele’s condition was given. Sadly, I later learned that he had been killed, it broke my heart to hear that news. Here is a link to one of many news stories covering the tragic loss of a great driver.
